NMS Faculty Bulletin 2-6-2012

Great Things I Noticed Last Week:

Last week I had “Check In’s” with the teachers I appraise.  The 3 Ap’s are going to be conducting these check in’s also!  This is a great time for all of us to talk about goals, instruction, and student achievement.  I hope this will promote learning for all as we strive to become the highest achieving Title 1 middle school.  We will have “check in’s” regularly!  We want to improve our student achievement and I believe this coaching model will help us do that!  Go Team NMS!

Nuts and Bolts
Team NMS!  Things are moving fast and furiously!  We have taken the 8th grade released tests, and they are HARD!  We must continue to up the rigor in our classrooms to prepare our students for these tests!  Focus on the pacing and use every minute of your time as wisely as possible.  We don’t have a moment to waste.

2. Rigor/Relevance
3. HEAT – Ties PD together
       a.  H: Higher Order Thinking – BlOOMS, RIGOR
       b. E: Engaged learning – Technology, relevance
       c. A: Authenticity – RELEVANCE
       d. T: TECHNOLOGY – RELEVANCE, no roll out yet
4. Classroom Instruction – pacing, Teach Like A Champion and the 49 techniques
After reading those 4 items that we have looked at this year for Professional development, you can see that all of our PD have been based on rigor, relevance, writing good objectives and planning, and good techniques to improve achievement.  We have read 2 articles on the topic of praise and making mistkaes.  These are both techniques for our classroom.  The classroom is the battlefront and you all are on the front line!  We will keep up with these ideas for PD and become the highest achieving Title 1 middle school.
