NMS Faculty Bulletin 2-27-2012

Great Things I Noticed Last Week:

Small group instruction in Texas History
Loved the small group work in Texas History!!
I also loved watching 8th graders in Mrs. Lee’s class struggle with the Industrial Revolution!  Growth was happening very quickly!!  Relevance! Relevance!  Way to go!

Nuts and Bolts:
I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Our week is going to be a little messy with practice testing!  One of the reasons this week is so important is that it provides great information for us as a trial run for the real test!  I am sure there will be things that have been overlooked, althought we have tried to think through each scenario!  Please send emails if you notice or think of issues we may not have caught!  This is just the practice and it will allow us to make changes so the real STAAR goes off without a hitch!  I want to thank you in advance for your help, flexibility and feedback before we even begin!  Everything great that happens at NMS is because of the feedback you give to us, without it, we couldn’t pull off the great things this staff does!  Please remember that – and always share your thoughts or ideas!  I want us to really focus on growing a culture of feedback for all!  We are on our way!
These next two weeks – the Scholarly Tickets are white! They will be in your boxes Monday morning!   Please remember to sign them!  The next intramurals will be on Friday, March 9, 2012.  Thanks
I hope by now everyone has a copy of the book, “Teach Like A Champion”.  If you do not, please let me know so I can get you one!  Through the end of this year and into the fall of next year we are going to be doing a book study on this book!  Even though we are beginning to read it now – we are not looking to implement or change up anything!  We are getting ready for next year!  This is for next year!  This is that crazy time of year where we are completing one year, but we must begin thinking about the next!  But just know – you are not starting anything new!  We are just reading, talking, thinking, and planning!  Your most wonderful Department Chairs are going to lead this book study with you all!  We think the small groups will allow everyone a format to share their thoughts and ideas!  This book, the dialogue, and the plans we make are going to help us with our goal of creating a culture of achievement at NMS!  This is not new – it is the same goal from this year!  We are on our way – but we have a lot more to accomplish!  I believe this book will help us do that and the DC’s are on board!  By next Monday, March 5 – everyone needs to have read the Introduction and Chapter 5 from the book.  By the end of the year – we will have read 3 full chapters and the introduction!  The rest of the book wil come later.  I look forward to working with the DC’s on Friday as we make our plans for creating a culture of achievement here at NMS!  We must have this culture in order to be the highest acheiving Title 1 middle school in SBISD!
