And we’re off……..

NMS Goals for 2012-2013
1.  100% of students at NMS will score a 70% or better on the STAAR exams.
2.  99% of NMS students will be in the classroom every day for the 2012-2013 school year as measured by Skyward student discipline data.
3.  Each teacher will receive a walk-through per week with written feedback on that visit.  The feedback will be discussed every two weeks during the 03′s for the 2012-2013 school year.

Our academic focus for the remaining of the year is Literacy in every classroom.  This is how we will reach our LEP population.  I know after the PD on Monday, everyone can clearly see if we reach our LEP population – we will substantially move the needle on student achievement.  It is almost 1/2 of our population who is LEP – so these strategies will be game changers for us!  Formative Assessment must always be a part of the classroom – always knowing who mastered the material and who didn’t.  We will always talk about that and it will always be a part of outstanding classroom practices.  The core classroom teachers participated in more LEP training this past week.  The ELA department had two days, on Thursday and Friday.  They are going to be sharing with you each week – Literacy strategies you can use to reach our LEP students.  You received LEP strategies on Monday with the CIT and each Wednesday you will get more!  We are going to have a laser like focus on reaching these students and make it happen for NMS!

Culture
The focus the next couple of weeks is on our value of Kindness.  Please recognize students for the kindness that they show each other or show you.  Recognizing students can be just pointing it out, saying thank you for helping your teammate, etc…  If you think it is right, you can also give Knight dollars.  I wanted to shout out all of you for using the our discipline policy that we reviewed on Monday.  Students should only come to the office for the non-negotiables, I think we cleared that up, but if you still need clarification, please ask!    Thanks you for your help with that.

Shout Outs
I have a shout out to all the teachers who have been using Kickboard and using it as an incentive for students!  Thank you for taking the time to do that!  Another shout out to Jen R., Andrew, Gretchen, Katie G., Trisha V., Andrea, Susie, Patricia, Brian, Jose, Karen, and Sam for coming to the Odyssey training on Wednesday morning.  Thanks for giving your time!  I think it is going to be worth it!
