NMS Faculty Bulletin 2-4-2013

Some of our math team members hard at work!  Whoo hooo!

No Excuses is the NMS Knights Value that we are going to focus on this month!
No Excuses:  We all own our decisions and behaviors, finding solutions rather than giving excuses.  We take responsiblity for ourselves.

All Teachers Please Read:  It is now time to nominate teachers for Teacher Of the Year!  Please get names to me by 3:30 on Tuesday.  We will vote on Wednesday.  Nominations get turned in to me – please ask the person you are nominating prior to sending it to me – make sure they are ok running for TOY.  Thanks

This semester our Instructional Focus is on ESL Strategies.  We are going to be working with the Yes Rockets as we strive to use these strategies in our classrooms.  We have created a focus group who is going to do work this semester around those ELL strategies.  They are going to collect data and share it with you all.  The purpose behind this focus group is to give us feedback about our PD.  Is it working?  Is it being implemented in the classroom? Etc….  Cassie, Andrea, and Angela are the teacher representatives for the Knights.  More information is coming….

Town Hall News:
We are moving Town Hall to Mondays.  We have noticed that students do a really good job on Fridays focusing on the items that are talked about during Town Hall.  We think that beginning our week with a focus might be better than ending our week that way.  So – this Friday – no Town Hall – it will be on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 instead.  Thanks!

Culture Corner:
6th grade is doing a good job at getting to ICU/detention…this week our goal is 100%. Thanks teachers for letting us known about attendance with students…it seems to be making a difference. Keep the good phone calls coming… We called one parent twice this week and I don’t think there was a dry eye amongst the staff or the parent when we made them!!!

The 7th grade will be working on respect this next week. Respecting each other, respecting their teachers, respecting subs and most of all respecting themselves and what they have to offer each day at NMS.     They know that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” – Nelson Mandela
8th grade – As we wrap up this month’s Knight Value of Kindness – I wanted to give a shout out to Talita Barrera for the kindness she showed Caroline Sarnoff during Town Hall meeting.  Talita embodies the Knightly values and shows them frequently to other students.  I would also like to add that the very large majority of our students were sad for Caroline – some laughed out of nervousness, but most of them showed concern for her outburst.
