So – Here comes College for former NMS Students!  This is our goal:    T – 2 – 4
Here is my final thoughts  for the year:
Middle School is a difficult time for all kids!  I know raising my own son – middle school was rough for him too.  Kids are trying to figure out who they are and what they are all about.  Middle school teachers have such an important job to do.  You all help shape and mold the students as they try to find their way through this very difficult time in their lives.  On Friday – Tracey had invited back about 12 of her former students who are all going to college – one of them was the NHS valedictorian.  They spoke to the 6th graders about middle school and high school.  What I heard from all of them was middle school was a time where they got to try everything.  In middle school you can play all the sports, be in the band or orchestra, and still take art and choir and technology!  It was such a great moment and I wish all the teachers who have been here a couple of years would have gotten to hear them speak!  Many of them have full scholarships!  That academic, ahtletic, and overall success  starts here in middle school!   We have to work so hard in middle school to try to keep all of our students on the pathway to success.  Some students begin to dabble in activities that are NOT good for them.  Some students begin taking drugs,  selling weed, etc…  We can not write these kids off!  Honestly, every student counts!  Middle school students make a lot of mistakes!  A Lot!!  Luckily – WE are not going to let their middle school mistakes, mistakes they make in adolescence, define who they grow up to be!  We are here to support and advocate for each one of them!  It is our job!  As you enjoy your much deserved time off this summer, please keep these thoughts in mind!  Students from poverty have a big mountain to climb and our job is to help them get over each mountain top until they reach their final destination!  We  must be on their side!  The students in the picture above are not done – the SBISD 5 year plan says we are not done either.  We are here to double the number of students who COMPLETE a T – 2 – 4! Everything we do at Northbrook Middle School should have focus in mind!   NMS must prepare our students for their final destination!!

Each of you should have recieved 2 books during your final 03.  Those are your summer reading books.  Crucial Conversations – Tools for talking when STAKES ARE HIGH is the first book that needs to be read.  We are having a PD on Aug. 5  on Crucial Conversations.  Eveyrone will have the training – but if you come on Aug. 5 you have now earned your January Flex day, done and out of the way!  One of our focuses this coming school year is increasing the effectivness of our teams.  High functioning teams get higher results!  This book study will help us accomplish that and help us have those difficult conversations.

Today – you also will receive an email from me with directions on how to register for the August PD.  Please be sure you read that email and get signed up prior to leaving for the summer!

The lunche times are changed this week – be sure you look at the finals schedule.  (There is a copy of the finals schedule on this blog and Tracey sent it out again on Friday)  All teachers are asked to come to lunch and remain on duty while your grade eats lunch.  We want to end the year with nice, calm lunches!  Adult presence is key!  Thanks in advance for coming to lunch duty!

Remember – on Thursday – when you are ready to turn in your check out sheet – I am the final person to see!  I will collect the EOY sign-out papers!
