NMS Faculty Bulletin 10-7-2013

Know our Kids, Meet their Needs, Up the Mountain to T-2-4!

Task = Performance
Most all of you worked with Shawn from ICLE on Tuesday during your conference period.  I believe some of the  take aways from that hour was 1.) Does the work the students are assigned to do match the level of cognition stated in the AIM?  2.) How long does the student actually engage in this work?  3.) Of the 4 quadrants, none of them are bad.  We push for quadrant D when it is appropriate.  It is possible to have Quadrant D moments!  As we come in your rooms – our main focus is, what are the students working on?  What is the level of cognition of student work!  The first round of CBA’s are coming up soon, some even this week!

The 6th and 7th grade students are really doing an amazing job as Knights!  They are responding to the routines, procedures, and teacher directions that NMS has put into place.  For the 6th and 7th grade teachers – just keep it up.  Don’t back off of what you are doing – just keep on doing it!  We will have LiveSchool up and running soon ( hopefully this week) and we will be able to start using our paycheck system!   The 8th grade students are a little different.  The 8th graders did not start at NMS with the plans we have now.  They are bucking the system and pushing back!  The 8th grade teachers have routines and procedures – but are getting the push back!  It is going to take all of us to work with the 8th graders to get them on board and keep them on board!  If the 8th grade teachers need a village – then a village they will get!  We will prevail!

FuelEd – still on hold – however I do need to see the CIT Monday right after school for about 20 minutes.  Thank you in advance for coming at such a late notice!

I am still walking by areas and there are no adults out in the hallways!  This is a non-negotiable – it is a safety issue!  Please follow the kids out the door and to the hallway!

8th grade teachers – you have one week until the EXPLORE test!  Please be sure you are preparing our students for this test.  They must know and understand the test format and what kinds of questions they are going to be asked.  In order for the students to take it seriously, they need to hear about it from you.  The same way you talk about the STAAR – they all know that is serious – they should also know about the EXPLORE!  Please talk it up and let them know it counts for them!  The EXPLORE test also counts for NMS’s accountability!

7th grade has been focusing on grit and zest but the one Knight value that has stuck out to me lately is the molding of teamwork not only among Knights but also between YES and NMS staff and kids.  It is everywhere!! In the elective classrooms, in the cafeteria, on the field, in the xerox room, on the court and after school. Just like and family we will have our ups and downs but it is heartwarming to sit back and marvel at what is happening!
GENTx week all week!  Dream It!  Believe it!  Achieve It!  College is in your future!
