NMS Faculty Bulletin 1-13-2013

Know Your Kids, Meet their Needs, Up the Mountain to T-2-4!

I have to give Lesli and all the grade levels that met with her this week a shout out for great Data Conference Meetings.  I was there for the majority of some, and not as much for others, but what I got to see, was really good work.  Teachers worked on writing the Essential Questions for the rest of the year, and essential questions for the Unit they are currently teaching.  Teachers also made plans for the students they are going to work with in small groups, in or effort to meet our kids needs.  The purpose of tests, any tests, is to assess what students know, and then make decisions based on that information.  Tests must guide our teaching!  So – one more time – a big shout out to:  Lesli, 6,7, and 8th grade ELA, 6, 7, and 8th grade Math, and 8th grade SS and Science!  Awesome work!

One of the sections on the new 03 form is tied to the TriPod Survey.  That section is the 7 C’s.  I just want us to keep that in the forefront of our thoughts, because students’ perceptions of us are their reality.  For the last two bulletins – I inlcuded the quote from John Saphier, that says:

The best teachers find ways to convince students that they, the teachers, are believers – believers in the students and in the subject.  Not by magic, their words and actions, subtle but observalbe, send messages and thereby make a huge difference in learning, especially to low performing students!

Everything you do in your classroom communicated to your students.  Be thoughtful about your actions, words, and messages – We have to be our kids biggest supporters – we have to put our faith in ourselves to get them where they need to be and communicated how much we believe in them!

How did this week go using and being thoughtful about the Literacy Strategies you used in your classroom?  Each of the departments have a Literacy Plan – so please be sure you are using those strategies, reading, writing, listening, and speaking, in your classroom every day!!  Go Team NMS!
