ImageKnow our Kids, Meet Their Needs, Up the Mountain to T-2-4!

Look what I saw at the lunch table!!!

This was not a set up – I just walked by and there they were!  This is because you guys are on them about bringing their books – keep giving them money on Liveschool!  If we stay on them we can do this!  Literacy is that important!  It is the key to Mt. T-2-4!

We took about 40 students to the NHS v. SWHS soccer game on Friday night!  The kids had a blast – ate all they could – unfortunately – NHS lost to the Tigers!  I hope the incentives are helping – the more Liveschool is used the better! This will help us build our culture to the kind we want – we are well on our way!  keep up the great work!

Our next push is for our students to know what Grit is and to become super gritty in their academics and alll that they do!  It is about setting goals and staying with something until the goals are reached!  I have seen many teachers’ classrooms that have goals posted and I have been in classrooms where teachers talk about goals with their students every day.  This is what helps our kids learn about grit!  Angela Duckworth explains that there are 2 halves of grit:
1.  being resilient, especially when facing adversity
2.  having consistent, focused passions – over a long time – meaning you choose to do a particiular thing in life and choose to give upa lot of other things in order to do it.  And…. you stick with those interests and goals over the long term.

I believe we have to help some of our students with being gritty!  I know there are times I need help being gritty – keeping focused on my goals!

The accountability teams should be meeting – and we have 3 areas of focus:
1. Backwards design – beginning with the end in mind – having tests, quizzes, and exit tickets written before you begin a unit
2.  Literacy and ELL strategies
3.  Using your data to guide instruction – small groups

We want our students to know in each and every class:
This work is important.
You can do it.
I won’t give up on you!

The tripod survey is coming!  Remember, the Tripod survey is focused on the 7 C’s.  How are you showing your students each day the 7 C’s?
Care – You matter to me in a serious way
Challenge – I insiste upon rigor and YOUR best effort
Control – Our class is orderly, on task, and respectful – learning is our first priority
Clarify – I have multiple good explanations for things, let me know when you are confused
Captivate – I make lessons intellectually relevant and stimulating -they are important
Confer – You must talk with me to help me understand your ideas and support your learning
Consolidate – I summarize lessons and check for understanding to make learning coherent.

How do you do those things in your classroom?
