Know Our Kids, Meet Their Needs, Up the Mountain to T-2-4!

Things are getting busy!  Finals are only 2 weeks away!

You will receive the end of the year check out form on Friday of this week!  For those of you who are new – and as a reminder – everything on your form must be checked off before you can leave the building at the end of the day on Saturday, June 7.  Some of you may be industrious and get your job done by the end of the day on Friday – I will begin checking teachers are complete, at 2:00 on Friday.  There are directions on what to do with technology and it is critical that all technology gets checked out and you are signed off by Tracy Ache.  You want to make sure that you don’t leave anything out on your desk – everything needs to be in drawers.  There are some teachers moving – we will put out the room assignments early this week.  You can get with the person whose room you are moving so you can determine when you want to make that all happen.

Congratulations to Katie Gentry – NMS Teacher of the Year!  There was a really nice dinner and celebration for all of the TOY for SBISD on Friday night at the Westin Memorial City.

The 8th grade Dance was a huge success!  A great big shout out to Katie Wells and Elizabeth Rodriguez for spear heading this project!  The cafeteria looked awesome!  I would also like to thank all of the teachers who stayed on Friday night to help get the cafeteria ready!  Snaps to…..  Sarah, Morgan, Kyle, Crystal, Katie, Elizabeth, Jan, Minga, Joe, Molly, Mari, Steve, Gail, Cassie, Haulcey, Coach Franklin, Paula, Kathryn, Olga, Camila, John Canas, Eric Reyes, Taylor Bryson, Jan   .   We had two new DJ’s this year – Camila and Geraldina!  I am many of you know both of these awesome girls!  They were by far our best DJ’s ever!  Mr. De La Rosa, Pedro’s dad, provided all of the equipment!  There wasn’t ever a glitch!  The music was great!  We had brownies, taquitos, chips, cupcakes, and pizza!   There were so many teachers who came to the dance… Snaps to these teachers for joining in the fun and making the night so special for the kids!  Snaps to…. Katie, Elizabeth, Jan, Leah, Steve and his wife Lynne, Kathy, Tracey, Angela, Minga, Joe, Kyle, Lindsey, Trisha, Molly, Mari, Crystal, Lesli, Olga, Haulcy,  Elizabeth C., Connie, Gail, even Stephanie Walton came by!   Please let me know if I left you off!  I will correct it!  It was one of the best dances ever – so thank you to everyone who had any part in making this happen!

Most of YES Prep will be gone this week.  They have their Spring Trip!  We have 11 7th graders joining them on their trip to New Orleans!  They are visiting numerous colleges!  This is a great opportunity for kids and hopefully we will be able to take our students on some trips like these!!  Safe travels Tracey and the R’ights Council!

Another note:  PBS is making a documentary about the SKY Partnership. How crazy is that?  That is how amazing the work you all are doing is!  Congrats to you!  They will be in the building on May 21 and 22 filming.  If you see a film crew, that is who it is!  They will be interviewing a couple of teachers, more info to come!

Reminder:  It is very important that everyone be on duty and be on time to duty!  These last two weeks are stressful for the kids – some of them dread the summer (no matter what they tell you) and just get stressed.  Some of our kids do not get meals when they are not at school.  All of this to say – it is imperative that all teachers be on duty in the hallways and in the pods during passing period from now to the end of school.  Teacher presence in the hallways makes our school safe!  Thank you in advance for being on duty!!  NMS has the best teachers!!
