The Knights’ News 11-3-2014

Know our Kids, Meet their Needs, Up the Mountain to T-2-4!

I want to say Thank you to all of you fantastic teachers out there!  You all worked so hard to make sure your ELL students passed their classes for the first 9 weeks.  However, more important than the grades – is the learning – the rest of this year the focus will be on how we are making the content accessible for our ELL/LEP learners. If we make the content accessible – and make sure we assess students in ways they can show us what they have learned – their grades will be passing!!  This is critical for the kids future – as they learn English – they are still learning the content!  These students make up 45% of our population – so how we help them learn is going to determine our STAAR scores and more importantly the students’ future!

Be like a hedgehog – be focused on reading, writing, speaking, and using those ELL strategies:  Randomization, Word Walls, Anchor Charts, Sentence Stems, Structured Table Talk, and Partner Talk!

I need to meet with the Campus Leadership Team on Monday after noon.  We will meet in the conference room at 4:00.

A huge shout out to all staff who attended Community Night last night!  I think it was a great success!  Every parent that you speak with is a huge win for you and the student!  Thanks for talking it up!
