NMS Knightly News 1-5-2015

Welcome Back!  I hope everyone had the best holiday break ever!  I got to catch up with old friends, spend time with family, and do some shopping!  I can feel my sense of urgency kicking in a good way!  I am excited to be back at NMS and finish what we have started this year!  What I love about the spring is the dual purpose it brings!  We are working hard to complete this year the way we want with the results we want – as well as begin to plan for the next school year!  It’s a fresh start and I love that!  I am all in and I know you are as well!  NMS will be making it happen this spring – no matter what!  The right team is in place!

January is an awesome time to reset expectations in the classroom!  It is completely appropriate to take one or two days to make sure your kids understand your CHAMPS expectations and do lots of practice with them before you dig in to the curriculum!  The more practice in the beginning – the clearer your expectations will be!

As we begin this second semester – remember our hedgehog focus has been on Literacy in all classrooms and using the ELL strategies to help our second language learners grow in their English literacy. You all have done such great work with the ELL strategies!  Please continue to be thoughtful about where you use the strategies, but continue to use them!  Visuals, Visuals, Visuals!  It is always appropriate to use lots of visuals as you are teaching your kids!  The third piece of our hedgehog like focus is writing!  Our students must be writing in each class every day!  Have them write 2 -3 sentences as their warm up on what they did yesterday in your class, or have them write 2-3 sentences on what they still need help on from yesterday’s lesson, exit tickets can be students writing a summary of what you all did in class that day – the list goes on – you have way better ideas than I do – but you get the gist!  The writing doesn’t have to be a huge assignment – just authentic student writing every day!  Remember – this kind of authentic writing also helps students cement their learning in your class – so it truly is a win for all!!

I look forward to seeing everyone Monday morning – 8:00 in the MPR!  Here is your schedule for the week:
